The family name
Romer is of a charateristic origin. According to investigations it is derived from the
Germand language and show deep religiousness. In the middle age Romer or Römer were
called such ones who undertook a pilgrimage to the Holy City Rome. Such pilgrimage was
very difficult and dangerous as it could only be done on foot, by horeses or donkeys and
who arrived back home safely enjoyed high acknowledgement. Therefore in many cases the
descendants take over the first merely epithet Romer as family name.
