The Glenn Miller Lyrics Collection

"Great fun to read all these lyrics - makes me want to play all the records now!" (Dave Weiner)

Welcome to the place on the Internet dedicated to the great songs by Glenn Miller and his Orchestra! From 1938 until 1944, this unique big band shaped popular music to an extent that similarly has been achieved only by names like Elvis Presley or The Beatles.

On this site you'll find the lyrics to over 200 songs, alphabetically listed. Please feel free to contact me if you know of any similar venture or have any suggestions, comments, questions or corrections to make or of course if you want to add more song lyrics.

My first thanks must go to Dr. C.J. Ganter of Würzburg, Germany for his help and constant patience in researching correct lyrics and for encouraging me in the first place.

This project couldn't have been completed without the unimaginable help and knowledge of one person: Andy Davison of Durham, North Carolina, a 77-year old young man and a longtime Glenn Miller fan himself (he bought his first Miller Bluebird 78 rpm's in the early Forties), who kindly corrected so many lines, answered all my questions and filled gaps where necessary. My most sincere and heartfelt thanks go to him. Andy, wherever you are right now you have my eternal gratitude!

I am also deeply indebted to John Cooper, Jim McCoy and Rick Gerber, all of them longtime Miller experts, who have been an invaluable help in finding rare lyrics and correcting a number of lines. Gentlemen, it is a pleasure working with you!

A man I won't forget to mention is Dave Weiner of the Yahoo GM discussion group, who helped by correcting many lines that managed to slip through undetected until late in the process. Big tip o' the hat to you.

Read Dick Jacobs' interesting and worthwhile reference book "Who wrote that tune" (1988) for some clarifications about "Words and music by...".

Special thanks go to Tom Mani, U.S. Army Military District of Washington, for kindly allowing me to include their article about Miller's Air Force Band period (1942 to 1944).   (Visit their general site:http://www.mdw.army.mil )

I highly recommend the following Glenn Miller forums for posting and exchanging information on our favorite bandleader:

NOTE: All contents on this site are purely and solely for personal reference! No profit whatsoever must be made hereof. This site is merely meant as a service to those who are in doubt of a certain line in a song (and to hold up the memory of Glenn and his timeless music, of course!)

(BTW: Yes, I prefer "The Lady's In Love With You" to "Lady's In Love With You, The" so you'll find that song under "T", not "L"!)

And now: "Let's build a stairway to the stars..."
